Friend Makin’ Mondays

I wasn’t intending to participate in Friend Makin’ Mondays any time soon, since this is only my 3rd post and I don’t have any readers yet. However, I have been working on a playlist post to put up soon so here goes nothing.

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

I started Couch to 5k about 6 weeks ago and just finished Day 3 of Week 3 (for the second time). I have run each week twice. Obviously, I am not much of a runner and really need music to motivate me and keep me going.

I actually have 2 lists, one with an alt. rock playlist and another with a dance/pop feel. When making a playlist I always try to go for continuity. The first is simply called “treadmill”:

Flathead, Henrietta & Chelsea Daggar, The Fratelli’s (I love this band. How can you resist a band that takes its name from the Goonies. I’m sad they broke up before I could see them in concert).
Missy, Gasoline & Papillion, The Airborne Toxic Event (again, Love. All from their first album)
The Underdog, Spoon
Around the Bend, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
Come on Eileen, Save Farris
Oh My God, Ida Maria
Last Night, The Strokes
The Rascal King, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Fluorescent Adolescent, The Arctic Monkeys
Sea Lion Woman, Feist
Walcott, Vampire Weekend

This is actually my favorite of the two lists, some of my favorite songs new and old are on there and I had to restrain myself from adding more. I am struck by the about of “horn” in all of the songs whenever I run to these songs, as if I need serious fanfare in order to get my ass moving. After a few weeks of listening to these songs I think I am going to take a few off, namely Chelsea Daggar and maybe Around the Bend.

My second list is just as simply named, it is “Treadmill Dance” and it has more mainstream hits on it. I have to admit to learning about some of these songs via my daughter’s Kidz Bop Pandora playlist. Sad I know.

Foundations, Kate Nash
Turn Me On, David Guetta & Nicki Minaj
Sexy & I Know It, LMFAO
Good Feeling, Flo Rida
Boom Boom Pow, Black Eyed Peas
Pon Di Replay, Rihanna
Telephone, Lady Gaga
Dynamite, Taio Cruz
We Got the Beat, The Go-Go’s
Pumped up kicks, Foster the People

I sometimes wonder what my playlists will look like in the future weeks/months. If any of these songs will stay with me until I hopefully get to the point when I can run a full a full 5k. I wonder which ones I will get sick of and which I will keep, which ones will remind me of great runs that make me want to carry on or those that are so bad that even hearing the same song will make me want to quit. For now, just hearing the opening drum and horn reel of Come On Eileen makes me want get moving and pick up the pace.
